KIM SANG BAE
He graduated from Yonsei University in Korea and developed 'Stickybot', which crawls vertically up walls, while he was doing a Phd at Stanford University in 2006 by obtaining inspiration from the appearance of the lizard Gecko. 'Stickybot' was selected by Time Magazine as 'Invention of the Year', and he became the talk of the town. In 2012, he developed 'Earthworm Robot', which freely scrawls around, with Seoul University in Korea. Various living things (e.g. insects, mammals) provide him with inspiration that is based on his research on robots.
Leonardo da Vinci's various tasks and Kim Sang Bae's Robots primarily have something in common in terms of thoughts, sensibility, and imagination that lead and/or accompany creative tasks: the explorations of nature. And they show the junction of the arts and science through the explorations of nature, individual experiences, values, realization, and a constant interest in nature and a constant struggle for it. -
